The city that is the county seat of Camden County, is the small town of Woodbine. It's family oriented community is apparant by the feel of peace and quiet, and natural beauty of the area. The city participates in the Better Hometown Program to stimulate the downtown economy. This program is run by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to revitalize small communities. Because of this, Woodbine has grown and has become a favorable place to live for families.
The community of Woodbine got it's start in 1765 when a handful of businessmen received fourteen hundred acres of Piles Bluff, located south of the Great Satilla River. Although this was not the exact site of Woodbine, it was the nearby settlement that grew into the town. The city of Woodbine, was eventually purchased and incorporated in 1908 by the Savannah and Western railroad.
