Kingsland History

It was in 1788 that the the John King purchased large amounts of land in the area for a plantation, and called it Woodlawn. On this same property, William Henry, John King's grandson, later built his home. In 1893, the railroad named the area "King's Land" because William's house was the only one around. After the arrival of the railroad, a community began to develop nearby.
